The Open Enrollment period is your opportunity to choose coverage that fits your needs. Look for a plan with access to Dignity Health providers, medical groups, hospitals and care locations.
As you review plans, think about the types of care you and your family may need in the year ahead. Confirm that the health plan you choose includes access to the Dignity Health care locations, services and providers that matter most to you. To assist you in making an informed decision, here are some helpful tips for navigating the open enrollment period with confidence.
With Dignity Health, you can access a network of care across California that includes virtual visits, primary and specialty care and hospitals.
Open Enrollment is a period when you can review, choose or make changes to your health insurance coverage for the year ahead. It is an opportunity to consider plan options, costs, benefits, covered prescriptions and provider networks before deciding which coverage best fits your needs.
Your options, deadlines and enrollment steps depend on how you get health insurance, such as through an employer, CalPERS, Covered California or Medicare. Outside of Open Enrollment, you may only be able to make changes if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period or experience certain life events, such as moving, losing coverage or a change in household coverage needs.
Before enrolling, contact the health plan directly or review its provider directory to confirm that your preferred Dignity Health providers, medical groups, hospitals and other care locations are in-network.
Review premiums, deductibles, copays, out-of-pocket costs, covered prescriptions, provider networks and care options. Also consider your expected healthcare needs for the year ahead, including access to primary care, specialty care, emergency care or other Dignity Health care locations.
A primary care provider (PCP) is often your first point of contact for routine care, preventive screenings and non-emergency health concerns. Your PCP can help you manage your overall health, discuss changes in your health, order screenings or lab work and treat many common illnesses or injuries.
Your PCP can also help coordinate care with specialists when needed. Choosing a PCP who is in your health plan’s network can help you stay connected to care throughout the year.
If you already have a Dignity Health provider, medical group or hospital you prefer, confirm they are included in your health plan’s network before you enroll. Check the health plan’s provider directory or contact the health plan directly, because provider networks and accepted insurance plans may change.
An HMO, or health maintenance organization, usually has a defined provider network and may require you to choose a primary care provider (PCP) and get referrals for some specialty care. A PPO, or preferred provider organization, may offer more flexibility to see providers in or out of the network, often with different costs. Taking time to compare plan details can help you choose coverage that fits your needs.
