Robert Wiebe, MD, MPH, MBA

Bob is committed to achieving clinical excellence by reducing unwarranted variation through evidence-based practices, engaging practitioners, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and advancing health equity. Bob joined the ministry in 2008 as the Chief Medical Officer of Dignity Health and became the inaugural Chief Medical Officer for CommonSpirit Health in 2019. As Chief Medical Officer, Bob provides senior executive and strategic leadership for quality, patient safety, clinical service lines, physician engagement, clinical research, medical informatics and clinical data science. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Bob led the enterprise-wide efforts to ensure CommonSpirit kept staff and patients safe and remained open to serve its communities. More recently, he has driven significant improvements in publicly reported measures of quality, patient safety and clinical efficiency. Bob established an innovative approach to physician engagement and oversees the growing clinical applications of artificial intelligence. Before joining CommonSpirit, he was Director of the Veterans Integrated Service Network 21, which serves northern California, northern Nevada, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands. Under his leadership, the organization was recognized as the Veterans Health Administration's highest-ranking network in overall performance based on an aggregation of quality, access, patient satisfaction and business metrics. His vast leadership experience and passion for advancing health care accessibility and quality have earned him distinctions, including Becker’s Healthcare list of “chief medical officers to know”and Modern Healthcare’s “50 most influential physician executives.” Bob received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a medical degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He completed his residency (internal medicine) and fellowship at the University of California, Davis. Bob also received a master’s degree in public health at the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s degree in business administration at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
