Surgeon Explains Treatment Options For Breast Cancer

When a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, CHI St. Vincent offers many advanced treatment options. 

Breast surgeon Sirinya Prasertvit, MD said they take the approach of individualizing a patient's treatment plan.

“Once we know the type of cancer that she has, there’s a lot of counseling in terms of what’s best for her, how she should be able to decide and what the next steps are,” said Dr. Prasertvit.

Next steps could be a lumpectomy or a mastectomy, the two main options for surgery, according to Dr. Prasertvit. 

“My job is to make sure that the cancer is gone and that we save her life," said Dr. Prasertvit.
