Andrew Rivara, MD

A graduate of The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Magna Cum Laude, Dr. Rivara went on to Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY where he earned his Medical Doctorate. He completed a Research Fellowship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and his Residency at Duke University Hospital. Dr. Rivara is on the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Medical Association.He was a clinical associate at Duke Health in the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. His work has been published and presented around the country; meanwhile, he has been honored for his excellence in teaching, caregiving, Robotic surgical competence, and minimally invasive surgery. He specializes in complex, women's health concerns focusing on both the medical and surgical management of uterine fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, ovarian cysts, and associated pelvic pain, abnormal periods, and painful intercourse. He utilizes hormonal and non-hormonal medical options to address these concerns as well as appropriate surgical procedures including same-day and in-office procedures in a minimally invasive approach

Dr. Rivara wants to be a source of knowledge to help empower patients through their health needs. My patient care philosophy is to provide a safe space for women to voice their concerns, support their life choices, and facilitate their family planning. I am honored to have the opportunity to advocate for and see patients throughout the many milestones of their lives and help counsel them through the women's health concerns they may have.
