BARDSTOWN, Ky. (May 2025) – Flaget Memorial Hospital has announced its 2024 Physician of the Year, Advanced Practice Provider (APP) of the Year, Employee of the Year, and Leader of the Year award recipients. They were recognized during a hospital celebration in April. This year’s recipients are:
Each year, Flaget Memorial Hospital recognizes an outstanding Physician of the Year and APP of the Year who help build healthier communities and exhibit Saint Joseph Health’s core values of compassion, inclusion, integrity, excellence and collaboration. Dr. Patrick Williams was nominated for Physician of the Year by his colleagues.
“Dr. Williams is deeply compassionate about the care he provides to our patients,” said his nominator. “He is a collaborative physician, actively engaging with other providers and providing valuable education to the cancer center caregivers about new treatments and technologies. He has received numerous positive comments from patients and cancer center caregivers alike, praising Dr. Williams for the excellent care he provides and the strong relationships he has built with the staff.”
The 2025 APP of the Year is Teresa Michelle Mattingly.
“Michelle consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication and leadership. She has repeatedly stepped up to support colleagues and patients during challenging times, showcasing remarkable compassion and diligence. Her conscientiousness and commitment to excellence are evident in her work, and her ability to build strong relationships with both staff and patients is truly commendable. Michelle's proactive approach to escalating concerns and her inclusive nature, extending to the families of team members, make her an invaluable asset to our team,” said her nominator.
Flaget Memorial Hospital also recognizes an Employee of the Year and a Leader of the Year who go above and beyond their duties and demonstrate the health care system’s core values.
Flaget Memorial Hospital’s 2024 Employee of the Year is Hobert Humphrey.
“Hobie is a compassionate and supportive colleague, always offering a listening ear and guidance to those in need,” said his nominator. “He embodies integrity and strives for excellence by ensuring patients are scheduled for their imaging studies in a timely manner. Collaboration and inclusion are central to Hobie's approach. He demonstrates these values in his daily work and through his leadership as chairperson of the Flaget Spirit Team.”
Mashonda Smalley has been named the 2025 Leader of the Year, recognized for her outstanding leadership in a managerial position.
“Mashonda is an exceptional leader who consistently goes above and beyond to support her employees and coworkers. She exemplifies our core values every day through her commitment to nurturing relationships within the hospital and fostering a supportive environment. She actively listens and addresses the needs of those around her and has the remarkable ability to bring people together for shared goals and her commitment extends beyond her core responsibilities, as she actively volunteers for the Spirit Team and the Safety Coach team.”

Flaget Memorial Hospital, part of Saint Joseph Health, is a 52-bed facility located in Bardstown, Kentucky. Established in 1951 by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, the facility serves residents of Nelson, Hardin, Marion, Washington, Spencer, Bullitt and LaRue counties.
