Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist Joins The Women’s Hospital at Saint Joseph East To Support High-Risk Pregnancies

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 6, 2025) – Saint Joseph Medical Group welcomes Jorge Lodeiro, MD, a maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialist, to its Lexington team. Dr. Lodeiro has more than 40 years of experience in managing high-risk pregnancies. Dr. Lodeiro’s addition strengthens the hospital’s efforts to provide specialized care for expectant mothers with medical or fetal complications.

“When a patient has maternal or fetal complications, it’s important to involve an MFM specialist,” says Dr. Lodeiro. “I work as a team with the patient’s obstetrician, not as a replacement for them. I believe in open communication and shared decision-making, keeping both the patient and their obstetrician fully informed every step of the way.”

High-risk pregnancy conditions, such as hypertension and diabetes, are common and can often be treated. For more complex cases, Dr. Lodeiro collaborates with a team of specialists and utilizes advanced medical technology to enhance outcomes for both mother and baby.

“I understand that high-risk pregnancies can be stressful and overwhelming,” says Lodeiro. “But I am committed to providing compassionate and individualized care for all my patients.”

Dr. Lodeiro earned his medical degree from the University of Carabobo in Venezuela, after completing a Bachelor of Science at Liceo Martin J. Sanabria, also in Venezuela. He also obtained a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of South Florida. Dr. Lodeiro completed his residencies at the Central Hospital of Valencia in Venezuela, Mount Sinai Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, and the University of Connecticut Health Center. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in both obstetrics & gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine.

Originally from Cuba, Dr. Jorge Lodeiro is excited to be in Kentucky and part of the Saint Joseph Health community. He understands the OB-GYN/patient relationship well – not only from years of personal experience, but also through his family’s strong medical background. His wife is a retired OB-GYN, his brother is a neurosurgeon married to a nephrologist, his daughter is a psychiatrist, his son is a vascular surgeon, and his daughter-in-law is a bariatric surgeon. With deep roots in medicine and a commitment to collaboration, Dr. Lodeiro values open communication and mutual respect across all specialties.

Dr. Lodeiro will serve patients at The Women’s Hospital at Saint Joseph East, located at 170 N Eagle Creek Dr, Suite 110, in Lexington. To make an appointment, call 859-263-0141.
