Saint Joseph Health is Presenting Sponsor for Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Goal of October 4 event in London is to raise $75,000

LONDON, Ky. (Sept. 2, 2025) – Saint Joseph Health is the presenting sponsor of the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Southeast Kentucky. John Yanes, president of Saint Joseph London and Saint Joseph Berea, is serving as chair for the walk.

“With nearly 7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, it is very likely that everyone has been touched by the disease, either through a family member or friend,” he said. “I, myself, have family and friends who have been diagnosed with the disease.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, one in three seniors dies from Alzheimer’s or another dementia. In fact, Alzheimer’s kills more people and breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. The financial costs are also high. In 2025, Alzheimer's and other dementias are projected to cost the United States $384 billion, and, according to the Alzheimer’s Association, are expected to rise to nearly $1 trillion in 2050.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the largest fundraising event for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. You can support the efforts by registering for the local walk, start raising funds and joining the walk on walk day. The Southeast Kentucky walk will step off at  Town Center Park, 503 N Main St. in London, at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5. The goal of the local walk is to raise $75,000.

“We’d like to see our friends and neighbors in London and southeastern Kentucky join our teams from Saint Joseph London and Saint Joseph Berea in support of this critical effort,” Yanes said. “While there is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, we are optimistic that research will continue to make progress on treatments and, hopefully, one day, a cure for the disease.”
