Saint Joseph Health Welcomes New Member to Critical Care/Palliative Care Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 7, 2025) – Saint Joseph Health Medical Group has added Andrew Fozzard, MD, as the newest addition to its inpatient critical care/palliative care team. With grandparents who were both physicians and nurses, Dr. Fozzard says he knew at the age of 10 that he wanted to pursue a career in medicine. He says he has a passion for patient and family care.

“I really like palliative care because I value the relational aspect. I can focus on the whole family and patient, and not just the disease that brought them into the hospital,” he said. “My conversations are focusing on a lot more than the disease. There’s more to health care and more to providing care than just addressing those medical problems.”

Dr. Fozzard has called the Lexington area home for the past seven years and had his sights set on Saint Joseph Health early on. Although the opportunity didn’t align at the time, he remained hopeful – and now, he’s grateful to have found the right fit at the right moment.

“The timing worked out. Securing an offer for this role at Saint Joseph Health was meant to be. There was a plan for me. I ended up here because God had a plan for me that I had no idea about, and here we are.”

Dr. Fozzard received his Doctor of Medicine from Mercer University and completed an internal medicine residency and a critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Wake Forest University. He is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and also is board certified in critical care medicine.

Dr. Fozzard met his wife of 10 years as a freshman at Wake Forest University and credits her as a major influence in his personal and professional journey. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with their two sons, learning about and collecting watches, and appreciating the craftsmanship of Kentucky bourbon.
