BARDSTOWN, Ky. (May 2025) – Saint Joseph Medical Group – Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) in Bardstown has added Elizabeth “Lena” Heaton, APRN, to its team of caregivers. A Bardstown native, Heaton brings a deep commitment to the community and is passionate about helping local women navigate their health care.
Heaton’s interest in health care began in childhood, growing into a meaningful career spanning more than a decade. Her nursing experience includes work in dialysis, surgery, urology, gastroenterology and primary care, but she soon realized her passion lies in women’s health.
“When I was earning my Master of Science in nursing, I completed my clinicals at Saint Joseph Medical Group – OBGYN in Bardstown, and I loved it,” said Heaton. “I find pure joy in helping women navigate their health care because I feel like it’s an area that often doesn’t get as much attention.”
Her approach to patient care is rooted in evidence-based medicine and shared decision-making. “I often tell my patients that I am the map, and they are the driver,” said Heaton. “I can provide the route they want, but they are the driver of their health care. I’m just giving them directions.”
After earning her Bachelor of Arts in geography from the University of Kentucky, Heaton attended Elizabethtown Community & Technical College for her associate’s degree in applied science, nursing. Heaton realized she wanted to do more for patients, and 10 years later, she earned her Master of Science in nursing from Frontier Nursing University.
When she’s not seeing patients, Heaton enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, bird-watching, solving jigsaw puzzles and exploring Bernheim Forest and Arboretum.
Heaton is practicing at Saint Joseph Medical Group – OBGYN in Bardstown, located at 4359 New Shepherdsville Rd., Suite 255. To make an appointment, call 502.350.5800.
