What are clinical trials?

Clinical trials are research studies that help find better ways to prevent, diagnose, or treat health problems. The purpose of a clinical trial is to find out whether a medicine or treatment is safe and effective for treating a certain condition or disease. They study how effective this medicine or treatment is compared with standard, accepted treatment. Or they may compare a treatment to a placebo, if there is no standard treatment. They can help find new treatments if no standard treatment exists.

Your doctor can help you find out if you are eligible to take part in a clinical trial.
