What foods are high in phosphorus?

The foods you eat contain nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals. Phosphorus is a nutrient. Your body needs the right amount to stay healthy and work as it should. You can use the list below to help you make choices about which foods to eat.

Here are some foods that are high in phosphorus. These foods have more than 100 mg per serving.

Grains

  • Bran cereal, ½ cup
  • Bran muffin, 1 medium
  • Bread (whole wheat), 2 slices
  • Corn tortillas, 2 medium
  • Oatmeal (cooked), 1 cup
  • Wheat germ, 3 Tbsp

Dairy and dairy alternatives

  • Evaporated milk, ½ cup
  • Hard cheese (American, cheddar, mozzarella, Swiss, provolone), 1 oz
  • Milk, 1 cup
  • Soft cheese (cottage, ricotta), ½ cup
  • Soy milk, 1 cup
  • Sweetened condensed milk, ½ cup
  • Yogurt, 6 oz

Meats and other protein foods

  • Beans and peas (cooked or canned), ½ cup
  • Beef, 3 oz
  • Chicken, 3 oz
  • Fish (pollock, walleye, swordfish, cod, halibut, salmon, sardines, tuna), 3 oz
  • Lentils, ½ cup
  • Peanut butter and nut butters, 2 Tbsp
  • Peanuts, 1 oz
  • Seeds (pumpkin, squash, sunflower), 2 oz
  • Tree nuts, 1 oz
  • Turkey, 3 oz

Beverages

  • Cola soda pop, 12 oz
