Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a procedure to smooth away small scars in the outermost layer of the skin. It is done by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. It is a quicker, easier, and less invasive treatment than dermabrasion, chemical peels, or laser resurfacing therapy.

With this technique, the face is gently buffed with a fine sandblaster that sprays tiny crystals across the face. A vacuum sucks up the crystals and dead skin. This stimulates new cell growth. The procedure usually takes less than an hour and leaves the skin only a bit red. Several treatments may be needed to get the best results.

This procedure has few, if any, side effects. It's generally safe and does not require any anesthetic.
