Oral corticosteroids for children: When to call

Call 911 if:

  • Your child vomits blood or what looks like coffee grounds.

Call your doctor now or seek immediate medical care if:

  • You think your child may be having problems with the medicine.
  • Your child's symptoms are getting worse.
  • Your child is dizzy or lightheaded.
  • Your child has new or worse nausea or vomiting.
  • Your child's stools are black.

Watch closely for changes in your child's health, and be sure to contact your doctor if:

  • Your child does not get better as expected.
