Powassan virus is a disease passed to humans by infected ticks.

Symptoms can begin from one week to one month after the tick bite. Many people do not develop any symptoms. Symptoms may include:

  • Fever.
  • Headache.
  • Vomiting.
  • Confusion.
  • Weakness.

Powassan virus is a rare but serious disease, and severe symptoms need to be treated in the hospital.

Powassan virus has been found in the northeastern and Great Lakes regions of the United States. The virus has also been found in different provinces across Canada.
