Our experienced care team offers personalized support tailored to your needs and values. We provide high-touch and high-risk labor care, birthing balls, squat bars and a wireless fetal monitoring system to allow you to move freely during labor. Epidurals and other pain relief options are also available.
We encourage rooming-in with your baby (also called couplet care) and allow one adult to stay overnight. This promotes bonding, supports breastfeeding, helps babies stay calm and keeps you involved in every special moment. A respite nursery is available if needed.
Once admitted, you will be brought to an LDRP suite. You can review your birth plans and preferences with the nurse at this time. If desired, you can discuss pain management strategies with your nurse. We encourage each mother to room in with their baby and bond. Visits by the pediatrician will take place in the birthing suite.
Yes, newborns who need extra medical care stay in our Level III NICU. Our health care team is dedicated to working in partnership with the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston to provide any additional levels of care if needed.
To ensure safety and privacy, visitors must sign in with a photo ID between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. (unless the patient is in labor). One adult support person may stay overnight, but children may only visit during regular hours and must be supervised by an adult. Visitors with cold or flu symptoms should stay home. For security, we use a state-of-the-art infant monitoring system.
We promote skin-to-skin contact right after birth during the Golden Hour and support breastfeeding from the start. Our registered nurses are trained to help, and certified lactation consultants are available seven days a week for more complex needs. Our staff follows the Texas Ten Steps guidelines, supporting breastfeeding and skin-to-skin care from birth.
We also offer monthly breastfeeding classes, a weekly support group (Wednesdays at 10 a.m.) and hospital-grade pump rentals through Lori’s Gifts on the first floor. For rental information, call (936) 266-2070. To reach a lactation consultant, leave a voicemail at (936) 266.2081; calls are returned within 24 hours.
To speed up your admission and care, we recommend preregistering in person between 20–28 weeks of pregnancy. Visit the welcome center in the main lobby, Monday–Friday, 6:15 a.m.–5:30 p.m.. Bring a photo ID and insurance card. The process takes about 30–45 minutes and includes discussing paperwork, financial questions and birth certificate details. For help, call Patient Access Services at (936) 266-2000.
We recommend items to keep you comfortable, including comfortable clothing, toiletries, a phone charger, baby clothes, a car seat and any personal comfort items like a pillow or blanket.
Other items to consider packing include:
Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplainable, sudden death of an infant. While the tragic death of a baby is only amplified by the frustration of not understanding the root cause of SIDS, there are steps you can take to lower your baby’s risk of SIDS.
As a Gold Certified Safe Sleep Champion by the Cribs for Kids program, we teach you how to keep your baby safe while sleeping. We also support skin-to-skin contact after birth and encourage breastfeeding when possible, both proven ways to help reduce the risk of SIDS.
Postpartum blues can occur from birth to two weeks after delivery, causing mood swings, crying, self-doubt and trouble eating or sleeping. Postpartum depression includes similar but more intense symptoms that last longer and interfere with daily life. If you’re concerned, talk to your doctor or nurse. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends a full postpartum checkup within six weeks of birth.
Our team of OB/GYNs provides a full range of gynecologic and obstetric care, from well-woman exams to gynecologic surgery. If you don't have an OB/GYN or are looking to establish care, you can contact a Baylor St. Luke's Medical Group provider in The Woodlands for all of your women’s health and maternity needs.
With our virtual tour, you can familiarize yourself with our birth suites and amenities. Contact Heid Foster to schedule an in-person hospital tour.
We offer a variety of classes to help prepare you for childbirth and help you feel more comfortable taking care of yourself and your new baby.
