The Cardiology Fellowship Program at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is a three-year, American College Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-approved program. Additional time may be selected for training in basic sciences, interventional, electrophysiology and adult congenital heart disease.
Programs offered
The Cardiology Fellowship Program is affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine and based at Baylor St. Luke's Medial Center (ranked among the top Cardiology Centers in the country by U.S. News & World Report), and provides comprehensive, well-rounded training as part of a three-year program with primary emphasis on clinical cardiology.
Application process
The Baylor College of Medicine Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure program at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center accepts applications yearly through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) early national matching program. For the advanced heart failure program, you must be BE/BC in cardiovascular disease for this program. Please refer to the NRMP website for all dates regarding application and interviews. We can not accept H1B visas.

Interventional cardiology
The objectives of the Interventional Cardiology Training Program at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center are pre-procedural evaluation and management of the patient and progressive practical experience.
Nuclear medicine
The primary goal of training in cardiac nuclear medicine is to allow the fellow to develop an understanding of the applications, advantages, and pitfalls of radioisotope imaging as they apply to patients with known or possible cardiac disease.
Electrophysiology
The goal of the Electrophysiology Training program at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is to train excellent, scholarly, clinical cardiac electrophysiologists with a vast and diverse experience in clinical and interventional electrophysiology.
Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology
The training program at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is well suited to train physicians who specialize in heart failure and cardiac transplantation. The program enjoys a large transplant volume, the largest assist device and artificial circulation program in the region and many research endeavors in heart failure and transplantation.
Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The training program at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center program is particularly well suited for training physicians to specialize in noninvasive imaging of the cardiovascular system using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT).
Echocardiography
Level 1, 2 and 3 echo training are offered. Training includes surface echo, stress echo, transesophageal echo (TEE) and intraoperative TEE, all of which meet requirements for certification by the National Board of Echocardiography. Echo training is provided in the context of the 3 year general cardiology fellowship program.

They offer compassionate support through active listening and a deep understanding of each person’s unique needs.
Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center offers ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in a diverse, interfaith setting. The program brings theology students and faith leaders — such as pastors, priests, rabbis and imams — into supervised clinical experiences with people in crisis.
Through real-world encounters, peer feedback, and guided reflection, students gain:

Participants serve patients across Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and affiliated locations in the Texas Medical Center and Greater Houston. Training includes both routine care and crisis response while on call.
Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center participates in the CommonSpirit Health National Nurse Residency Program (NNRP) and welcomes graduate nurses from all over the country three times a year (February, July and October).
We understand that your first year as a nurse is one of the biggest challenges you will face in your career. The
NNRP is designed to offer support to new nurses during
transition from the student role to the licensed registered nurse role.
The NNRP is a 12 month program with specialty tracks in
the following clinical areas:
Medical-surgical-telemetry
Progressive care
Critical care
Emergency department
Perioperative services
You will be paired with an outstanding and formally trained preceptor to guide you through the learning process. Supportive mentors will also be available.
The Operating Room RN Residency Program transitions registered nurses experienced in non-perioperative areas of practice into the surgical arena. This six to nine-month program requires no commitment and runs on a referral basis.

Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center has joined the CommonSpirit Health Administrative Fellowship program, streamlining the recruitment process. The CommonSpirit Health Administrative Fellowship is a national 18-month system-wide fellowship offered in our various operational regions and functions across the organization. Fellows complete several rotations over the course of a year and a half to gain exposure and develop valuable skill sets in their areas of concentration.
Our pharmacy residencies and fellowships include specialties in critical care, cardiology, infectious diseases and pharmacy administration. Residency opportunities within Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center’s pharmacy department prepare future pharmacy leaders.

Residency requirements vary but include:
Texas pharmacist licensure, in good standing by the sixth week of residency
Staff every third weekend and clinical practice rotation (four weeks)
Staff at least one major and one minor holiday
One major and one minor project
Medication use evaluation
Manuscripts on projects and medication use evaluation
Code Blue participation
On-call responsibility
Case presentations and seminars
Core rotations include critical care, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, informatics, admission medication reconciliation, discharge transition of care and pharmacy administration.
Elective rotations may include medical cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiothoracic transplant, liver transplant/hepatology, renal transplant/nephrology, hematology/oncology and others.
The residency includes longitudinal experiences in medication safety, two projects, practice leadership, and concentrated experiences in professional development and medical emergencies.
Residents have the opportunity to engage in teaching and preceptorship of students during selected rotations. A certificate in academia is offered through the University of Houston College of Pharmacy.

Educational Affiliation Agreements
Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center requires an active educational affiliation agreement (EAA) for all rotations. An EAA is a legal agreement between BSLMC and an external academic institution for purposes of providing a formal learning experience. These opportunities are generally in a supervisory situation such as a clinical experience under the direct supervision of a provider or technical leader within Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center.
