Journey from Heartburn to Esophageal Cancer Recovery

Thad was away with his family on vacation when he experienced what he thought was the worst heartburn he’d ever had. The pain was so intense that he cut his vacation short and immediately went to John Baber, MD, at CHI St. Vincent Gastroenterology Clinic. After a scope, Thad was diagnosed with an ulcer, and after medication and a follow-up appointment was feeling great. 

Thad skipped his next follow up because he felt fine. He didn’t get another scope for two years. Doctors then diagnosed Thad with esophageal cancer. Thad had experienced no symptoms for two years, but he now needed to take quick action.
