Screening in adults is intended to find diseases before any symptoms appear. To help stay as healthy as possible, get routine checkups and get the screenings that you and your doctor decide on.
Your screening tests may include tests for heart attack and stroke risk or for diabetes. You may also have screening tests for certain types of cancers, such as breast or prostate.
If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, you may have screening tests for genetic conditions, gestational diabetes, sexually transmitted infections, and other conditions.
How often you should have screening tests depends on your age, sex, personal and family health history, and individual behaviors that might increase the risk of disease.
