Axial spondyloarthritis is a term for different types of inflammatory arthritis that most often occur in the spine. The two main types of axial spondyloarthritis include ankylosing spondylitis and non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis. It can cause pain and stiffness in the back, buttocks, and neck and sometimes in areas like the hips, chest, or heels.
