This blood test measures your child's blood sugar (glucose) level. It also measures the electrolyte and fluid balance. And it checks to see how well the kidneys and liver are working.
Your child's doctor may use this test to check on a health problem. The test may also be used to help diagnose a problem, such as diabetes.
A health professional uses a needle to take a blood sample, usually from the arm.
Your doctor may ask you not to eat or drink anything other than water for at least 8 hours before the test.
