What is plication of the diaphragm?

Plication of the diaphragm is surgery to improve lung function when the diaphragm is paralyzed. Tools are inserted through small cuts (incisions) in the chest and used to create folds in the diaphragm. These folds are then stitched into place. This makes more room for the lungs and eases breathing.
