An advanced practice registered nurse and certified family nurse practitioner since 2023, Alexis McWhorter’s areas of interest include diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hyperlipidemia and hepatitis C treatment. She sees patients ages 6 and above at Saint Joseph Medical Group – Primary Care.
From a young age, McWhorter knew that she wanted to be in a service field, helping others. The chronic disease she saw as a southeastern Kentucky native, and her experiences in clinical training and as an emergency room nurse, were the driving forces behind her choice to specialize in primary care. She chose a nursing career to be hands-on with patients at their bedside and then furthered her education so she could see patients continuously instead of on an outpatient basis.
“My favorite part of my job is building the longstanding relationships and educating my patients about their health,” she said. “I enjoy seeing them be inspired and truly willing to make a change for the better.”
McWhorter holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Eastern Kentucky University. She also holds certifications in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support and hepatitis C treatment.
