Areej Sami, MD

Dr. Areej Sami is a board-certified general surgeon and fellowship-trained surgical oncologist. A distinguished member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, she specializes in complex general surgical oncology, focusing on a variety of pathologies.

Dr. Sami's philosophy regarding patient care centers on understanding what is most important to the individual. She prioritizes active listening to grasp their understanding of their health and their expectations prior to providing recommendations. Recognizing the multidisciplinary nature of cancer care, she emphasizes seamless communication and collaboration with the entire healthcare team to ensure comprehensive and coordinated treatment plans. For Dr. Sami, the most rewarding aspect of her work is the opportunity to empower patients, helping them understand their cancer diagnosis and actively participate in their treatment. She is driven by the profound privilege of giving patients more precious time with their families and friends.

Dr. Sami completed her Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship at Advocate Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee, WI, following her general surgery residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, OK. She earned her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, IN, a Master of Science in Biology from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, IN, and a Bachelor of Science in Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI.
