Dr. Vega is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He offers comprehensive treatment plans for a range of conditions, including sports-related injuries, fractures, and bone and joint disorders. His services include ACL reconstruction, knee arthroscopy, rotator cuff and shoulder repair, and total knee and shoulder replacement.
Dr. Vega earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine after completing his undergraduate degree in bioengineering at Rice University. He then completed an internship and orthopedic residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where he also served on the Orthopedic Resident Selection Committee. Following his residency, Dr. Vega completed a sports medicine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Vega previously served as an assistant to the team physicians for professional sports teams such as the Texans, Rockets, Dynamo, and Astros, as well as collegiate, high school, and recreational athletes. He is actively involved in research concerning knee and hip biomechanics. His work on ACL and meniscal injuries has been published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, and in 2007, his research team received The Frank Stinchfield Award from The Hip Society for their contributions to the biomechanics of the hip labrum and hip stability.
In his free time, Dr. Vega volunteers as the team physician for the Brazosport High School football team.
