Dr. Lars Sjoholm is a highly accomplished trauma surgeon and surgical critical care specialist currently practicing at Marian Regional Medical Center as part of Dignity Health Pacific Central Coast Health Centers. With a career spanning three decades and experience across multiple countries, Dr. Sjoholm brings an exceptional level of expertise and leadership to his patients and the communities he serves. Dr. Sjoholm earned his Doctor of Medicine from Lund University Medical School in Lund, Sweden in 1993, one of Scandinavia's most prestigious medical institutions. He later pursued additional academic study in Statistics and Scientific Theory at the University of Jonkoping in Sweden, further strengthening his foundation in research and evidence-based medicine. His postdoctoral training was extensive and internationally diverse. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine and a residency in General Surgery at Hoglands Hospital in Eksjo, Sweden, followed by additional residency training at Lund University Hospital. Seeking to broaden his expertise, Dr. Sjoholm came to the United States and completed both a surgical internship and a General Surgery residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then completed a Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, where he would go on to serve as a Trauma and Critical Care Attending, Associate Fellowship Director of the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, and Assistant Medical Director of the Trauma ICU. Dr. Sjoholm's academic career is equally distinguished. He has held faculty appointments at Temple University Hospital's Lewis Katz School of Medicine, rising from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor of Surgery, a position he continues to hold. He has also served as Chief of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care and Medical Director of the Trauma Program at Temple University Hospital, reflecting the trust and respect he has earned among his peers and colleagues. Dr. Sjoholm is board certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, and holds active medical licenses in Sweden, Pennsylvania, and California. He is a credentialed Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor and holds certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and holds memberships in numerous prestigious professional organizations, including the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery.
