Max Haffner, MD

Dr. Max Haffner is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, shoulder and elbow surgery, and advanced hip and knee surgery, including robotic-assisted direct anterior hip replacement. He is dedicated to helping patients of all ages and activity levels relieve pain, restore mobility, and return to the activities they love.

Dr. Haffner graduated from the UC Davis School of Medicine, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) in recognition of his outstanding academic achievement. He continued his training at UC Davis, completing a six-year orthopedic surgery residency with a dedicated research track. During his residency, he was elected Administrative Chief Resident by his faculty and peers, recognizing his leadership and commitment to the residency program.

Following residency, Dr. Haffner completed advanced fellowship training in sports medicine, shoulder and elbow surgery at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, North Carolina. During his fellowship, he served as a team physician for the Carolina Panthers (NFL), Charlotte FC (Major League Soccer), the Charlotte Knights (Chicago White Sox Triple-A affiliate), and NCAA Division I athletes. His experience caring for professional and collegiate athletes informs his approach to treating patients at every level, from competitive athletes to individuals seeking to regain an active lifestyle.

Dr. Haffner utilizes advanced robotic technology for personalized surgical planning and precise implant positioning in direct anterior hip replacement. His surgical expertise also includes arthroscopic shoulder, hip, and knee surgery, rotator cuff repair, anatomic and reverse shoulder replacement, ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, cartilage preservation and restoration procedures, and the treatment of complex sports injuries.

Having grown up in the Sacramento area, Dr. Haffner is proud to return home to serve his community. He believes in providing individualized, evidence-based care, combining advanced surgical techniques with clear communication and shared decision-making to help patients return to the activities that matter most to them.
