Robert D. Fisher, MD

Dr. Fisher is a surgeon and general urologist that practices a wide breadth of urology in men and women. His passion is helping people when they need it most. His approach to medicine is to listen closely to his patients, clearly explain things in regular terms, and to make shared decisions together. He views the doctor-patient relationship as a partnership.

Dr. Fisher's clinical areas of focus include urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, enlarged prostate (BPH), men's and women's health, complex kidney stones, and erectile dysfunction. He is also a robotic surgeon with expertise in bladder cancer, prostate cancer, and kidney cancer. Dr. Fisher has earned the distinction of "Center of Excellence" in various types of procedures including sacral nerve/bladder stimulators. He takes pride in being up to date on the latest technology in urology.

Dr. Fisher has a unique background. In 2006, he enlisted in the active duty U.S. Army as a Combat Infantryman. He completed his Infantry training and Airborne school at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. In 2009, he deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan for one year as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom. During his time overseas, he found his passion for medicine while assisting with free medical clinics for Afghan civilians. This inspired him to use his veteran education benefits to go to college and become a doctor. He picked urology as a specialty because he enjoys the interesting mix of surgery and clinic medicine, and he appreciates the close relationships that he builds with patients due to the more intimate nature of urology problems.

Dr. Fisher moved to Bismarck, North Dakota because he felt a strong sense of community and family atmosphere at St. Alexius Medical Center. The health care team at St. Alexius is truly committed to their patients, and he felt honored to be able to serve a community in the same capacity.

Dr. Fisher married his wife, Jenny, in 2007, and they have a German Shorthaired Pointer named Brave. He is an avid runner, regularly competing in Ultramarathon races. He loves to travel and spend time outdoors.
