Dr. Shalini Makawita is an oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal and general medical oncology. She is Assistant Professor of Medicine - Hematology & Oncology at the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Makawita’s clinical interests include: gastrointestinal medical oncology; clinical trials; and cancer biomarkers.
Dr. Makawita received a B.S. and MSc from the University of Toronto. She received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Makawita holds certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine in Medical Oncology and Hematology. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology. In 2021, Dr. Makawita received the ASCO Conquer Cancer Merit Award and an Excellence in Ambulatory Care commendation in 2018 from Baylor College of Medicine.
