Sherna Madan, MD

I was born in India and migrated to the US just before my 20th birthday in 1967. My undergraduate degree was a BS in Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley. In addition to my MD degree, I did graduate study in biochemistry for four years, at UCLA, before making the decision to go to medical school, also at UCLA. I have a Candidate in Philosophy (C.Phil.) degree in biochemistry from UCLA and I feel that the additional high level training in science that I had the privilege of acquiring, has enhanced my knowledge and practice of medicine.  I have a long family tradition of physicians in my family. My great grandfather was a physician and his daughter my grand-mother had also hoped to be one. She was however,denied admission to medical school in the late 1800s, because she was a woman. Her daughter, my paternal aunt became a physician, my identical twin sister is a physician and so is her daughter, my niece. A maternal uncle and several maternal second cousins are also physicians.I am very happily married to my beloved husband of 46 years and we have two great children, a daughter and a son. My hobbies are gardening, music and reading.

My care philosophy is to treat my patients as I would like other physicians to treat me or my beloved family, that is, with complete attention to all aspects of their problems and with the utmost respect. The practice of medicine is a sacred trust and not just another job. It is imperative to understand how much patients and their families rely on physicians to give them their very best, critically examining their medical problems and looking for the very best solution. We cannot do less than that.
