Smit Singla, MD

Dr. Smit Singla is a dual board-certified surgical oncologist with more than 20 years of clinical, academic, and leadership experience in the United States and the United Kingdom. He is board certified in Complex General Surgical Oncology and General Surgery, and he serves as Chief of Surgical Oncology at Mercy Medical Group. Dr. Singla specializes in the surgical treatment of complex cancers and diseases of the pancreas, liver, bile ducts, and gastrointestinal tract. His areas of expertise include hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, gastrointestinal oncology, minimally invasive surgery, and robotic-assisted procedures. Notably, he performed the first robotic Whipple procedure in the Sacramento area. Dr. Singla believes that patients with complex cancers receive the best care through a coordinated, multidisciplinary, and value-based approach. He works closely with medical oncologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and other specialists to develop an individualized treatment plan for each patient. He is committed to helping patients and their families understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and expected recovery so they can make informed decisions with confidence. Dr. Singla completed advanced surgical training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University Hospital, and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. He has also held academic appointments at Michigan State University and Wayne State University. In addition to clinical care, Dr. Singla has published research in surgical and oncology journals, contributed to surgical education and curriculum development, and served as a journal review editor. He also holds a United States patent for a laparoscopic feeding jejunostomy device. Dr. Singla’s goal is to combine advanced surgical techniques, thoughtful clinical judgment, and compassionate communication to provide each patient with comprehensive, evidence-based cancer care.
