My approach to patient care is founded in compassion and competence. Surgery can be a distressing and overwhelming experience, full of anatomy lessons and test results, and my first job is to place the patient in the center of everything, to reaffirm their humanity and become partner in their care. And secondly, since patients entrust me with their bodies, I have worked tirelessly to develop mastery of my craft and to approach their surgical needs with the latest minimally invasive techniques to reduce pain, speed postoperative recovery and have as small of an impact as possible. My role as a surgeon begins as educator, to teach the patient and their family about their body, their disease, as well as treatment options to consider.
Good health is a universal human value, transcending nationality, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, language, religion, physical ability, sexual expression and any other identity. We all have fragile bodies that need care. For millennia, doctors have held a sacred role in society to care for individuals at their most vulnerable. I am humbled and privileged to have earned the knowledge and techniques to bring healing to many patients and cure many diseases. I became a surgeon so that I can help the most amount of people using my head, my heart, and my hands.
