Tyler Spata, MD

Dr. Tyler Spata is a fellowship-trained cardiovascular surgeon at St. Joseph Health Cardiovascular Associates in the Bryan-College Station area. He has extensive training in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, with a special interest in robotic thoracic surgery. Dr. Spata is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to all his patients, reflecting CommonSpirit Health’s core values.

Dr. Spata earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston after completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas in Austin. His strong academic background laid the foundation for his advanced training in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.

He completed his general surgery residency at The Ohio State University, where he also earned a Master’s in Medical Sciences. Dr. Spata then pursued a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Minnesota, further developing his expertise in advanced and minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Dr. Spata is proficient in Spanish, which allows him to connect with a wider range of patients and provide more accessible, inclusive care—especially for vulnerable populations. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and following Longhorn athletics.
