Michael P. Browning, CPA

Michael Browning is the senior executive vice president & Chief Financial Officer of CommonSpirit Health, who joined the system in December 2025, reinforcing its commitment to sustained growth and financial strength. With more than 30 years of experience in health care finance, Mr. Browning is recognized for guiding organizations through complex challenges while delivering strong performance and stability.

Most recently, he served as CFO of OhioHealth, a $7.5 billion health system with 19 hospitals, where he led the organization through significant financial achievements and resilience during the COVID‑19 pandemic. 

Prior to OhioHealth, Mr. Browning held senior financial leadership roles at ProMedica Health System, WakeMed Health & Hospitals, Parkview Health, and McLeod Health, consistently driving strategic growth, operational efficiency, and financial turnarounds across diverse nonprofit systems. His strategic vision and operational acumen position him to lead CommonSpirit’s financial strategy into its next chapter, ensuring the system’s ability to deliver high‑quality, compassionate care nationwide. 

Mr. Browning holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Kentucky Wesleyan College, an MBA from the University of Louisville, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
