CommonSpirit Awards $14.2M in Community Health Improvement Grants

CommonSpirit Health awards $14.2 million in community grants to 324 nonprofits nationwide, advancing access to care, behavioral health services, and health equity.

CHICAGO – June 30, 2025 – To improve community health and promote health equity in the communities it serves across the country, CommonSpirit Health awarded $14.2 million in grants to 324 non-profit organizations across the United States through its Community Health Improvement Grants program during fiscal year 2025.

CommonSpirit’s Community Health Improvement Grants program, known as the Health Equity and Advancement Fund in Colorado, Utah, and Kansas, supports local non-profit organizations committed to addressing root causes of illness and vulnerability. The program funds projects that improve community health, promote health equity, and enhance local services. Focus areas are strategically aligned with priorities identified in the hospitals’ annual community health needs assessments.

“The Community Health Improvement Grants are a wonderful expression of how we are living our mission as an organization, and investing in our communities focused on demonstrated health needs,” said Michael Bilton, System Director, Community Health/Community Benefit. “By financially supporting and in many cases actively partnering with these local community service non-profits, we are able to help strengthen prevention and access to services beyond our care centers,” he said.

CommonSpirit’s Community Health Improvement Grants program is one aspect of CommonSpirit's comprehensive community benefit strategy, which includes more than $5 billion annually in patient financial assistance, and unreimbursed care.
