CommonSpirit CEO Discusses Healthcare Affordability

Wright Lassiter III shares 4 key priorities with Congress to improve healthcare affordability, emphasizing fair payments and regulatory relief.

WASHINGTON, April 28, 2026 – CommonSpirit Health President and CEO Wright Lassiter III today testified alongside other healthcare leaders before the House Ways and Means Committee during a hearing on healthcare affordability. Lassiter underscored four priorities to improve affordability: timely payment for care already delivered, sufficient Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, relief from unnecessary regulatory burden and stronger accountability for health plans.

Lassiter described the pressures driving healthcare costs nationwide, including reimbursement shortfalls, payer practices that delay or deny payment, workforce strain, administrative burden and the need for transparency that helps patients make informed decisions.

“The cost of care is one of the most important challenges facing patients, families and providers,” said Lassiter. “CommonSpirit is committed to working with policymakers on practical solutions that preserve access to quality care and strengthen the healthcare system for all patients and communities.”

As one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health systems, CommonSpirit brings a national perspective shaped by the needs of patients, caregivers and communities across 24 states, and remains committed to deepening understanding of the vital role ministries like ours play in supporting a stronger and more equitable healthcare system in America.
