CommonSpirit Donates Equipment to Support COVID Response in India

Donation comes as India faces one of the worst COVID-19 outbreaks in the last year.

CHICAGO — May 11, 2021– CommonSpirit Health, one of the largest U.S. health systems, is donating more than 630,000 surplus pieces of personal protective equipment to support COVID-19 relief efforts in India. This donation will include masks, gowns, goggles, coveralls, face shields and KN95 face masks.

India’s COVID-19 case load continues to grow at an alarming rate, putting strain on medical systems throughout the country. The donation from CommonSpirit will provide much-needed PPE to health care workers treating patients with COVID-19. As a mission-focused Catholic health system, CommonSpirit is part of the global community and supports those in critical need in India during this public health emergency.

“We have a moral responsibility to support others as they manage the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said CommonSpirit CEO Lloyd H. Dean. “Globally, this crisis is far from over, and the current situation in India is dire. This donation will supply providers in India with quality PPE so they can more safely care for their patients.”

CommonSpirit will work with Air India and Rotary International to deliver and distribute the surplus equipment.
