CommonSpirit Health has been recognized with the prestigious John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award in the National Level Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality category. The award honors CommonSpirit for implementing an innovative approach to achieving and sustaining clinical excellence.
The Eisenberg Award is considered one of the highest national honors in health care quality and patient safety, recognizing organizations and individuals who have made groundbreaking contributions to improve quality and patient safety in innovative and measurable ways. CommonSpirit was recognized for improving care for an additional 400,000 patients over three years and for achieving significant improvements in key quality and safety metrics, leveraging best practices and technology to meet our goals.
For example, CommonSpirit Health has significantly enhanced patient outcomes by focusing on key areas like heart failure, maternal hypertension, and catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and implementing a structured improvement model alongside advanced technology. Its virtually integrated care model embeds virtual nurses into hospital care teams at many of its locations to mentor new staff, reduce workload, manage care transitions, and cultivate collaborative patient care.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from The Joint Commission and the National Quality Forum. It's a testament to the deep-rooted culture of safety and quality that we've cultivated across CommonSpirit and a direct result of the unwavering dedication and hard work of our entire team,” said Thomas McGinn, MD, MPH, CommonSpirit Health Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Physician Executive Officer. “By leveraging advanced analytics and technology and prioritizing patient safety and quality we are fulfilling our commitment to providing compassionate, equitable, and effective care to all members of our communities. This award inspires us to continue striving for excellence in all that we do.”
The Eisenberg Awards, named in honor of the late John M. Eisenberg, MD, MBA, a leading advocate for healthcare quality improvement, recognizes major achievements by individuals and organizations that are improving patient safety and healthcare quality in innovative and measurable ways.
The 2024 winners join more than two decades of influential healthcare organizations and leaders that have made major strides to improve patient care worthy of an Eisenberg Award.
