CommonSpirit Health has been named one of America's Most Innovative Companies for 2026 by Fortune Magazine.
This is the first time CommonSpirit has been recognized on the annual list, reflecting the many ways CommonSpirit is reimagining care delivery.
Virtually Integrated Care (VIC): CommonSpirit’s (VIC) brings experienced virtual nurses into the care team to support bedside staff, mentor newer nurses, and help connect patients to the right care solutions across the continuum. The model is already delivering measurable results:
A 43% reduction in first-year RN voluntary turnover.
A 37% reduction in both central line-associated bloodstream infections and catheter-associated urinary tract infections.
A 20% increase in "communication with nurses" scores on HCAHPS.
A 21% decrease in emergency department hold hours with the newly implemented model.
Care Base: CommonSpirit is improving access and patient safety through Care Base, its virtual hospital model. Care Base ensures patients receive the right care in the right setting, whether in the hospital, post-acute care, or at home. Across 286 facilities in 17 states, Care Base has helped over 64,000 new patient transfers reach the appropriate level of care, while its Virtual Companion program prevented almost 158,000 adverse events in FY25.
Robotic Process Automation: Another standout innovation is CommonSpirit’s use of robotic process automation for cancer screening. This technology proactively identifies patients who are due or overdue for colon, breast, and lung cancer screenings by reviewing health history and preparing screening orders for physician approval. Robotic Process Automation has driven 60% to 80% improvement in screening compliance across regions. In the Northwest Region, lung cancer screening rates rose from less than 10% to 90% after implementation. The program has now been expanded system-wide.
Emergency Department Dashboard: CommonSpirit’s innovation culture also extends to operations. An internally developed Emergency Department Operations Dashboard gives leaders system-wide data on key metrics, connecting this information with 20 leading practices for real-time improvements. The dashboard has contributed to:
A 9.8% reduction in door-to-doc time
A 3.14% decrease in boarding time
A lower left-without-being-seen rate of 1.5%
The implementation of the dashboard has resulted in a better experience for patients and better workflows for staff.
Together, these efforts reflect how CommonSpirit is building innovation at scale, through partnership, measurable outcomes, and ideas that emerge from both advanced technology and frontline teams.
