CommonSpirit Memorial Hospital: A 100 Top Hospital

CHATTANOOGA, TN (April 15, 2026) – CommonSpirit - Memorial Hospital is recognized as a 100 Top Hospital. This recognition comes from an independent quality analysis by Premier, Inc. The findings are published by Modern Healthcare. Memorial Hospital has been on the 100 Top Hospitals list 11 times.

For more than 30 years, Premier’s 100 Top Hospitals® program has used an independent analysis of public information to find the best hospitals in the United States. The program helps health care leaders improve performance and provide value to patients and communities. It does this by offering clear, unbiased information.

Hospitals do not apply for this study. Award winners do not pay to share their award.

100 Top Hospitals® program performance – The study compared top-performing hospitals with similar hospitals. It found that this year’s 100 Top Hospitals® had better patient results and operated more efficiently. If all hospitals performed at the same level as the top performers, the benefits for Medicare inpatients could include:

• More than 279,000 additional lives saved

• More than 477,000 additional patients without complications

• More than $14.3 billion in inpatient cost savings

• More than 21,700 fewer patients readmitted within 30 days

About the Study

Premier’s 100 Top Hospitals® program focuses on short-term, acute care, non-federal U.S. hospitals that treat a broad spectrum of patients. Researchers evaluated 2,540 short-term, acute care, non-federal U.S. hospitals.   All research was based on publicly available data sources from 2019 through 2024, including: Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR) data, and data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Care Compare website. 

Hospitals were evaluated using a balanced scorecard of ten performance measures. 

Hospitals are stratified and ranked within peer groups to allow fair comparisons: major teaching hospitals (10 facilities), teaching hospitals (30 facilities), large community hospitals (20 facilities), medium community hospitals (20 facilities), and small community hospitals (20 facilities).
