Gail Daly’s transformative impact on patient care earns Modern Healthcare’s Innovator Award

Gail Daly, RN, awarded by Modern Healthcare for Care Base, a "virtual hospital without walls" revolutionizing patient access, safety, and care efficiency at CommonSpirit.

Gail Daly, RN, system SVP clinical operations, integration and optimization at CommonSpirit Health, has been awarded an Innovator Award for 2026 by Modern Healthcare. This recognition celebrates leaders who champion forward-thinking ideas and demonstrate an exceptional commitment to advancing patient care, improving safety, and driving organizational efficiency.

Daly was recognized for the  development of Care Base, a “virtual hospital without walls” that ensures patients receive the right care, in the right setting, at the right time. 

Care Base integrates virtual nurses and providers with AI-powered monitoring, promoting proactive interventions and seamless care transitions. Under Daly’s leadership, the Transfer Center has supported more than 236,000 cases, including 64,701 new patient transfers; the Virtual Companion program has served 24,489 patients, preventing over 157,900 adverse events; remote cardiac monitoring has expanded to 18 hospitals; and 16,000 virtual discharges have enabled patients to return home sooner.
