Saint Joseph Health Welcomes Julia Richmond, PA-C, to Orthopedics Team in Bardstown

The Louisville native’s personal experiences as a patient inspired her career choice

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (Sept. 9, 2025) – Saint Joseph Health has announced that Julia Richmond, PA-C, has joined Saint Joseph Medical Group – Orthopedics in Bardstown. Richmond, a Kentucky native, said her interest in orthopedics began early in life.

“From a young age, I knew I wanted to do something with orthopedics and sports medicine,” Richmond said. “I was a student-athlete in grade school and high school, and after dealing with my own injuries, I just maintained that interest. After doing an orthopedics rotation in a physician assistant (PA) school, that’s when I knew that was what I wanted to pursue.”

Her personal experiences as a patient helped shape her career choice.

“The biggest thing I like about orthopedics is the sports medicine application,” she said. “I’ve always been interested in bones. I broke both arms and legs growing up and always wondered how bones heal and why I had to have a cast. Being on the other side of orthopedics as a patient made me want to help others in the same way.”

Richmond said she approaches patient care as a partnership. “My philosophy is more of a collaborative approach between the patient and provider,” she said. “It’s important that patients feel like they have a voice and a say in the type of care they want to receive. There should be a balance of mutual respect, with the same goal of helping improve the patient’s health – whether that’s overcoming an injury or managing a chronic condition. I want my patients to feel heard and seen and be part of their care.”

Richmond earned a Master of Science in physician assistant studies from Sullivan University in Louisville and a Bachelor of Arts in exercise science: health and wellness from Bellarmine University. She has clinical experience in pediatric orthopedics, women’s health, internal medicine, general surgery, and behavioral health.

Born and raised in Louisville, Richmond said she is excited to practice close to home. She enjoys spending time with her fiancé and family, reading, attending spin classes, and caring for her golden retriever.

Julia Richmond will see patients at Saint Joseph Medical Group – Orthopedics, located at 875 Pennsylvania Ave, in Bardstown. To schedule an appointment, call 502-348-5685.
