MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (September 24, 2026) – CommonSpirit Health has announced that Andrew Bouwkamp, DPM, has joined CommonSpirit Medical Group - Orthopedics & Podiatry in Mount Sterling. Dr. Bouwkamp, a native of Grand Rapids, Mich., knew he wanted to be in health care when he was in college at Michigan State University.
He chose podiatry as a specialty because he was interested in surgery as well as having a direct patient relationship.
“I love being able to get patients back to a place where they can enjoy their life and doing what they like to do,” he said. “That’s one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.”
Dr. Bouwkamp began his career in July 2017 at the University of Louisville Hospital as a resident physician specializing in trauma, orthopedics and wound care/diabetic limb salvage. After residency, he served as an associate in Podiatric Physicians of Louisville, then at Commonwealth Foot and Ankle Center, also in Louisville.
After earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State, Dr. Bouwkamp earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) at Des Moines University – Osteopathic Medical Center in Iowa.
In his practice, Dr. Bouwkamp focuses on new and advancing techniques including minimally invasive surgery.
“You have to think about who the person is, what their goals are … what they’re trying to do with their life,” he said. “You treat them based on where they want to be; you have to have each patient’s goals in mind.”
Outside of medicine, Dr. Bouwkamp enjoys spending time outdoors, playing tennis, hunting and cooking. He and his wife, Leah, who he met in Louisville, have one child.
Dr. Bouwkamp is accepting patients at his practice at CommonSpirit Medical Group - Orthopedics & Podiatry 624 North Maysville Road, Mount Sterling. To make an appointment, call (859) 497-4144.
