Vicki has been a vital part of the St. Luke’s - Sugar Land team for over a year. She brings more than 20 years of experience to her role. Her work involves being on the front lines of cardiac care. She monitors critical cases, helps doctors during life-saving procedures and ensures procedures run as planned. Her journey into this specialized field began with a degree in general radiography, but cross-training into the cath lab ignited a passion for its fast-paced and often intense nature.

"In the cath lab, you see a lot of people in very critical moments," Vicki said. "When someone is having a heart attack, it's truly life or death, and we try everything we can do to save their life. We say 'time is muscle,' and I value the immediate impact we can make in those critical situations."

Vicki’s philosophy goes beyond technical skill. She believes in approaching every task and every person with deep care. "There's a big difference between doing things with kindness and respect and compassion, and doing them without, just because it's your job," she said. This belief is the cornerstone of her humankindness in action. Vicki comforts nervous patients — providing warm blankets, playing soothing music, praying with them, or simply talking with them about their families or lives to ease their worry. 

This empathetic approach is deeply rooted in her personal experiences. Vicki grew up in a small town where the nearest major hospital was an hour away. She felt a calling to bring high-quality health care to those who need it most without the burden of long travel. Later, when her son was born with congenital heart defects needing extensive medical care, Vicki gained a deeper understanding of the patient experience and the power of compassionate care.

"It makes a huge difference when we are treated as individuals, not just a label with a chronic health condition," she said.

Beyond patient care, Vicki also supports her colleagues, readily sharing her expertise and helping new team members gain skills. She seamlessly steps into leadership roles, managing inventory and acting as a vital liaison for her manager – always ensuring the team has what it needs. This supportive spirit is part of her personal faith. Vicki shares her faith and fosters a spiritual environment at work.
