Dr. Nelson specializes in Microsurgery with expertise in DIEP (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator) flap surgery. He has special interest in breast reconstruction, facial fractures, advanced wound care and orthopedic trauma reconstruction.With a Bachelor's degree in Zoology from University of Wisconsin – Madison, Dr. Nelson went on to complete his Medical Doctorate from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed an integrated plastic surgery residency at Michigan State University – Spectrum Health, and a fellowship in breast and microsurgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, NY.Dr. Nelson has published articles on complex wound care, mucormycosis and facial fractures. He has presented at conferences and grand rounds on a broad range of topics, including use of autologous tissue for breast reconstruction.
