Frequently asked questions

Neurologists diagnose and manage neurological conditions nonsurgically. Neurosurgeons are trained to perform surgical procedures for conditions requiring intervention in the brain, spine or peripheral nerves.

You should consider seeing a neurologist if you experience persistent headaches, seizures, dizziness, memory loss, numbness, weakness or other unexplained neurological symptoms.

Your primary care physician may refer you to a neurosurgeon if you have an imaging test showing abnormalities in your brain or spine, or persistent neurological symptoms such as:

  • Numbness or weakness in your limbs
  • Seizures
  • Severe back or neck pain

It depends on your insurance plan. Some insurance providers require a referral from your primary care physician, while others allow you to schedule an appointment directly. We recommend checking with your insurance provider or contacting our office for assistance.

Your provider will review your medical history, discuss your symptoms and evaluate any imaging studies. They may perform a neurological exam or order additional tests to confirm a diagnosis. If they have enough information, they will discuss potential treatment options, which may include surgical and nonsurgical approaches. In some cases, they may request you return for a follow-up visit after additional tests are complete.

We work closely with The Woodlands Hospital, which is a State of Texas-designated and DNV-Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. This means we provide expert care for all types of strokes, including the most complex cases, using proven, research-based treatments.

Advanced artificial intelligence technology helps detect strokes quickly. This means treatment can begin sooner, improving your chances of recovery.

Using clot-busting drugs, blood clot removal and arterial stenting, our stroke teams can stop stroke progression and prevent permanent damage.

For complex stroke cases, our neurosurgeons are highly skilled to perform emergency surgeries to stop brain bleeding, restore blood flow and relieve pressure in the brain. We use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible to reduce risks and support healing.
