CHICAGO – November 2, 2022 - Following an extensive national search, CommonSpirit Health has appointed Daniel J. Barchi, MEM as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, effective Nov. 7, 2022. Barchi will report to CEO Wright Lassiter III.

Barchi is a highly qualified technology leader in health care with more than 20 years of experience advancing consumer digital tools, integrated electronic medical records, clinical applications and financial systems for large and complex health care systems. At CommonSpirit, he will focus on providing vision and leadership to support growth, operational performance, digital innovation and IT security. In the first few months of his tenure, Barchi will immerse himself in the CommonSpirit culture and operations, engage with internal and external stakeholders, support the ongoing response to the recent cyberattack, and identify opportunities for using technology to improve patient, clinician and employee experiences.

“The CIO role is integral to our ministry, and the addition of Daniel to our team will help us further advance our mission in the communities we serve,” said Lassiter. “I have no doubt that his expertise and leadership will help CommonSpirit deliver a more integrated digital experience for our patients, providers, and employees.”

His role there included overseeing the strategic vision and management of information technology, clinical and information business systems, innovation, analytics, information security and telemedicine.

“It’s a privilege to join a mission-oriented organization focused on improving the health of so many people,” Barchi said. “I’m excited about the many opportunities to leverage technology that can increase access to health care and support those who are delivering that care each day. I look forward to supporting CommonSpirit’s transformative work to improve the health and well-being of its communities.”

Prior to his time with New York-Presbyterian, Barchi served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Yale New Haven Health System and Yale School of Medicine, where he led a number of important initiatives, including implementation of a single electronic medical record across three hospitals and the development of an information security operations center.

Barchi has also served as the Chief Information Officer of Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia and as a US Navy Officer at sea in cruisers. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, where he was Brigade Commander, as well as a Master of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University.
