St. Luke’s Health - Patients Medical Center Introduces Advanced Robotic-Assisted Technology for Joint Replacements

Innovative technology allows surgeons to personalize total knee, partial knee and total hip procedures to each patient in Pasadena, Texas.

PASADENA, TX (March 13, 2026)St. Luke’s Health - Patients Medical Center, a member of CommonSpirit, announces the availability of sophisticated robotic-assisted technology for total knee, partial knee and total hip replacement procedures. The new minimally invasive system offers surgeons advanced precision that can lead to better outcomes including less pain and quicker recovery times compared to conventional surgery.

“With this new capability, I can utilize a CT scan to appropriately size a joint replacement based on a patient’s hard anatomy before we even step foot in the operating room,” said Orthopedic Surgeon Cristin Mathew, DO. “During surgery, I am able to further personalize implant positioning through fine soft tissue balancing to provide a more normal feel without the trauma of cutting a muscle. This results in an accelerated recovery and greater patient satisfaction. It’s exciting to now be able to offer this transformative technology across the joint replacement service line at Patients Medical Center.”

For partial knee replacement, robotic-assisted technology helps surgeons precisely address osteoarthritis in specific areas of the knee, aiming to relieve pain by resurfacing only the damaged portion and preserving surrounding healthy bone. Studies suggest this leads to more accurate implant placement than traditional partial knee procedures. Similarly, for total hip replacement, this innovative system aids surgeons in critical steps like bone preparation and implant positioning, with comparative research indicating a potential for greater bone preservation over manual techniques.

“We are proud to offer this highly advanced technology in our area,” said Steven Daniel, Hospital President at Patients Medical Center. “This addition to our orthopedic service line further demonstrates our commitment to providing the community with outstanding health care.”
