St. Joseph Health Makes State-of-the-Art Upgrades to Cath Labs

St. Joseph Health upgrades cath labs with cutting-edge GE Allia IGS systems, boosting heart care precision, patient safety, and advanced procedures in Bryan, TX

BRYAN, TX – (October 15, 2025) – St. Joseph Health is proud to announce a significant step forward in cardiovascular care with the comprehensive upgrade of two of its Bryan Hospital cardiac catheterization laboratories (cath labs) to the state-of-the-art GE Healthcare Allia IGS systems: an Allia IGS 5 and an Allia IGS 7. St. Joseph Health is the first CommonSpirit Health facility in Texas and the first health care facility in the Brazos Valley to implement the Allia IGS 7. This substantial investment in both systems underscores the organization’s commitment to providing the Brazos Valley with the most advanced and precise diagnostic and interventional cardiac treatments available.

The GE Healthcare Allia IGS 7 is ideal for complex interventional cardiology procedures, and the GE Healthcare Allia IGS 5 is specifically designed to enhance St. Joseph Health’s robust Electrophysiology (EP) program. These highly-advanced, image-guided systems represent a new generation of technology designed to enhance precision, safety and efficiency across a wide spectrum of cardiovascular interventions.

The Allia IGS 7 empowers St. Joseph Health’s expert interventional cardiology team to perform a wide range of complex procedures, including coronary artery stenting, angioplasty and structural heart interventions, with unprecedented clarity and control. Simultaneously, the new Allia IGS 5 significantly strengthens Electrophysiology (EP) services.

"The Allia IGS 5 is a perfect fit for our advanced EP program," said Amy Plotts, Director of Cardiac Services for the St. Joseph Health market. "It provides the detailed imaging and specialized features crucial for intricate procedures like complex ablation therapy for arrhythmias, the implantation of advanced pacemakers and defibrillators, and life-saving Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO) procedures. This dedicated system ensures we continue to deliver state-of-the-art care for patients with heart rhythm disorders."

"We are incredibly excited to bring both the Allia IGS 7 and Allia IGS 5 to our community," said Monte Bostwick, Market President for St. Joseph Health. "This dual upgrade is more than just new equipment; it's an investment in the specialized health and well-being of the people we serve. The enhanced capabilities of these new cath labs will allow our cardiologists and electrophysiologists to perform procedures with greater precision, potentially leading to improved patient outcomes, reduced recovery times and a safer experience overall."

Key advantages of the GE Healthcare Allia IGS systems include:

  • Exceptional image quality: Both systems provide crystal-clear, detailed images of the heart and blood vessels, allowing physicians to visualize even the smallest anatomical structures with remarkable accuracy. This superior visualization is crucial for diagnosing complex conditions and guiding intricate interventions across cardiology and electrophysiology.
  • Enhanced precision and navigation: The advanced imaging and 3D reconstruction capabilities enable physicians to navigate intricate vascular and cardiac pathways with increased confidence and precision, minimizing risk and optimizing procedural success.
  • Dose optimization: Built-in technologies are designed to manage and reduce radiation dose for both patients and staff, a critical aspect of patient safety in image-guided procedures.
  • Intuitive workflow: Features an ergonomic design and user-friendly interface, allowing the clinical team to focus more on the patient and less on equipment operation, thus streamlining procedures and improving efficiency in both interventional and EP labs.
  • Future-ready platform: The Allia IGS platforms are flexible, designed to adapt to evolving clinical needs and future technological advancements, ensuring that St. Joseph Health Bryan remains at the forefront of cardiovascular innovation.

The upgraded cath labs are now fully operational and accepting patients. St. Joseph Health looks forward to continuing its tradition of excellence in cardiac and electrophysiology care, now further enhanced by these advanced technological capabilities.
