Dignity Health Greater Sacramento insurance information

We are committed to making your health care experience as seamless as possible. We accept many major insurance plans, making it easier for you to access the care you need.

Understanding your insurance coverage

Navigating health insurance can be complex. We are here to help you understand how your plan works for care received at hospitals and clinics across the Greater Sacramento region.

We work with many insurance providers to make sure you have access to the care you need. Before your visit or procedure, we recommend confirming your insurance coverage, eligibility and benefits with your health plan or the hospital or clinic’s billing department.

Before your appointment or hospital stay, we recommend you:

  • Contact your insurance company: Call the number on your insurance card to understand your benefits, copayments, deductibles and coinsurance. Ask if your specific Dignity Health hospital or doctor is in your plan's network.
  • Understand prior authorization: Some services need approval from your insurance company before you receive care. Confirm if your treatment requires prior authorization to avoid unexpected costs.
  • Bring your insurance card: Always bring your current insurance card to every appointment. This helps us ensure accurate billing to your plan.

Knowing the difference between in-network and out-of-network care helps you make informed choices about your health care and avoid unexpected costs.

  • In-network (participating) providers: These providers and hospitals have a contract with your insurance plan. You typically pay lower out-of-pocket costs for their services.
  • Out-of-network (non-participating) providers: These providers and hospitals do not have a contract with your insurance. Your plan may pay less, or not at all, leaving you with higher costs.

We recommend that you always confirm your coverage directly with your insurance provider.

Dignity Health hospitals and medical group providers across the Greater Sacramento region accept a wide range of insurance plans, including commercial insurance, Medi-Cal and Medicare. Because plans and coverage can change, the most accurate way to verify coverage is to:

  • Contact your insurance provider directly: Call the phone number on your insurance card.
  • Contact your hospital’s billing department: Visit our billing page for contact information and help with general billing questions.

Contact our patient advocates: Contact our medical group patient advocates at (888) 242-1555 for questions about our services, billing or referrals.

If you do not have health insurance, we are still here to provide care. We offer financial assistance programs and can help you explore options for coverage. Your health and well-being are our top priority.

After your visit, you will receive a bill for services. This bill will often show the total charges, the amount your insurance paid and the amount you owe. If you have questions about your bill, contact our patient financial services team.
