Dignity Health Ventura County volunteers play a vital role in patient care. Each year, our volunteers dedicate tens of thousands of hours to supporting high-quality care for our patients and community.
Experience the joy of making a meaningful impact and creating a welcoming environment for patients, families, friends and staff.
We welcome individuals who are compassionate, reliable and committed to helping others. We look for volunteers who can dedicate a few hours each week or provide assistance with special projects. Volunteers must complete an application, pass a background check, meet immunization requirements and attend an orientation session.
Our volunteers assist in many areas, enhancing the patient and visitor experience. Roles vary by location but may include greeting and directing visitors, providing clerical support, assisting with patient transport, offering companionship or helping in gift shops. We match your interests and skills with our needs to ensure a fulfilling experience.
Dignity Health has two facilities in Oxnard and Camarillo where you can volunteer: St. John's Regional Medical Center and St. John's Hospital Camarillo. When you apply, you’ll be able to select the specific location that works best for you and explore available opportunities in that community.
The application process is simple. Start by filling out our online volunteer interest form. This form will guide you through the steps to select your state, market and preferred facility within Ventura County. Once submitted, our volunteer services team will review your application and contact you for the next steps, including an interview and orientation.
We also have a trial period for new volunteers, typically 60 days. This time allows you to learn about your role and for us to make sure it's a good fit for everyone. After this period, your supervisor can recommend you for continued volunteering.
Volunteering at Dignity Health offers numerous benefits beyond helping others. You'll gain new skills, make new friends and become part of a compassionate team. Many volunteers find it an enriching experience that provides a sense of purpose and connection to their community. It's also an excellent way to explore career paths in health care.
